Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the “Mormon Church” by friends of other faiths) are often referred to as “Mormons.” I am a Mormon. And I am a regular, every day young adult.
What is an average day like in the life of a Mormon?
The average day for a Mormon is just like their respected peers. In America, where I live, the average day consists of going to work, spending time with family, finding someway to serve a friend or loved one, doing regular household chores, etc. For instance, today I have: read my scriptures, exercised, eaten food, done some laundry, eaten more food (including some really yummy frozen grapes!). Later I will be going shopping, and then tonight I will spend time with my wonderful family! A pretty ordinary day, but wonderful nonetheless.
What do Mormons do for fun?
I love having fun! In fact, I received my bachelor’s degree in recreation management—so fun is what I do! I have learned throughout my life that all you need in order to have fun is to have a good attitude and a little bit of creativity.
Some individuals believe that Mormons have too many restrictions, and that these strict rules don’t allow us to have fun. That is so far from the truth! True, we don’t drink alcohol or do drugs. But we also don’t have to deal with hangovers, causing accidents (maybe even fatal), associated health problems, destroyed relationships, etc., due to the effects of using drugs and alcohol. In fact, I would say that because of our abstaining from these substances, we are truly free to enjoy ourselves. What we do have is the ability to know how to have a good time with out being under the influence. It’s a wonderful, and exciting thing!
Do Mormons have horns?
Okay, this is just ridiculous, and almost makes me want to laugh. My parents told me that when they moved to Missouri they had neighbors that actually asked if they had horns…. What? Where do people come up with this stuff? Silly if you ask me. No, we do not have horns, and cows do not fly. I wasn’t sure if this was a real rumor or not, so I recently “Googled” it, and viola—it is a real rumor. But it most definitely is a false accusation. This brings me to a good point…there are a lot of rumors going around about Mormons that aren’t true. If you want to know something about Mormons go to the source, not to someone who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone else, etc. After all, if we wanted to find out how exactly the Webster’s dictionary defined the word “courtesy” would we ask someone who doesn’t even have access to that dictionary themselves? Or would you look it up in the dictionary? I hope the latter.
What are the basic beliefs of Mormons?
We have 13 fundamental beliefs as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here are some of those “Articles of Faith”:
1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things (Articles of Faith 1:1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 13).
I am so grateful for the beliefs of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are what bring an enlightened perspective on eternity and the journey that we are all on.
Why do Mormons want to always teach others about what they believe?
Have you ever had something, you loved so much, that you wanted to share it with all the people you cared for? Maybe something as simple as a favorite meal? A favorite book? Or maybe a story that touched and changed your life? Well, for those Latter-day Saints who have a great desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone they can, they are trying to fulfill this same yearning. We care deeply about the message, and we care about people… Hence sharing the message of the Gospel with everyone we can!
Being a Mormon is great. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have prayed to Heavenly Father to find out if what Mormons believe is true, and I received my answer—the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ has been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know it’s true.
